City Social Services Win State Recognition
Virginia officials recognize city department for work with the economic and socially vulnerable.

Fredericksburg's Department of Social Services were recognized as one of Virginia's best. The State Board of Social Service recognized the department with a Prolcamation of Recognition at their April meeting for the department's administration of the SNAP, Medicaid, VIEW and TANF programs. Over the current fiscal year, the department met state and federal performance standards across categories like processing timeliness, work participation, SNAP participation and quality assurance error rates, according to a press release from the City of Fredericksburg.
Virginia's social service offices are divided into three tiers based on the number of employees. Fredericksburg's Department of Social Services is ranked as a tier two, having between 36 and 82 employees. Overall, the state recognized five departments in each tier, with Fredericksburg being recognized as the top Level II agency in the state, a field with more than 60 contenders.
The press release quotes Fredericksburg Department of Social Services Director who says that the recognition comes at a time when caseloads have increased among many of the programs offered.

"This recognition…demonstrates our commitment to the citizens we serve," said Gallik in the press release.
Diane Clark, Fredericksburg's Board of Social Services Chair underscored Galliks remarks, saying in the press release that "this shows that in the most difficult of times, great things can still be accomplished through the dedication of those who really care, showing themselves to be true public service professionals."
