Complete Guide to Family Table

Fredericksburg restaurants to spend the next week reaching out to parents of young ones, tempting them with prix fixe bargains and kids meal specials. This is your guide to them all.

Starting tomorrow, Aug. 6 and running through Aug. 14, local restaurants are putting on their best show for the family crowd as part of the first Family Table restaurant week. The week-long event sees a number of city dining establishments offering a slew of bargains designed to show off their goods to parents and children alike. Here is your guide to it all. 

The series begins with a kick-off celebration on Saturday, featuring an expanded farmer's market at Hurkamp Park, featuring interactive displays from  

Saturday's Food Festival kick-off will include an expanded farmer’s market at Hurkamp Park with additional interactive displays from the Cobblestone Children’s Museum and a vegetable and fruit carving demonstration by James Parker of Veggy Art. There will also be a moon bounce, Maranatha Alpacas, children's art activities, cooking demonstrations and an heirloom tomato tasting.

Following all that, you have your choice of restaurants to grab some good eats. Here's the list, courtesy of VisitFred.com:

Participating Restaurants and Menus

Barefoot’s

Barefoot's will offer three different two-course dinners. In addition, they will also have a two-meal kids dinner menu. All three dinners will have a choice of shrimp cocktail or calamari as appetizers. All dinners include one trip to the salad bar.

  • Fried or blackened catfish with hush puppies and choice of two sides
  • Fried shrimp with hush puppies and choice of two sides
  • Crab cakes with hush puppies and choice of two sides.

Sides include green beans, french fries, cole slaw or butter beans.

The kid’s menu offers chicken tenders with french fries or hot dogs with french fries.

Jake & Mike’s

Two course dinner for $20

First course:

  • Mixed greens salad with strawberries, candied walnuts, pickled onions and gorgonzola cheese
  • Spinach salad with dried cranberries, candied walnuts and goat cheese
  • Cup of roasted garlic and tomato bisque

Second course:

  • Marinated boneless pork
  • Pan roasted chicken breast
  • Blackened or pan seared mahi mahi

Kids eat lunch/brunch for free on Saturday, Aug 6 and 7. Kids eat free nightly Aug 8 – 14

The Bavarian Chef Fredericksburg 

Prix fixe menu selections - $20 per person and kids 12 and under pay their age (drinks, tax and gratuity not included)

Appetizers:

  • Chilled blueberry soup
  • Creamy red pepper soup with lump crab meat
  • Tossed garden salad

Entrees:

  • Bavarian sausage platter
  • Weisswurst, bauernwurst and bratwurst over homemade sauerkraut
  • Schweineschnitzel- crispy hand breaded pork served over burgundy sauce
  • Huehnerbruestchen baden- boneless chicken breast over apple stuffing, glazed with kirschwasser-orange sauce

Choose two family-style side dishes to accompany your meal: 
red cabbage, spaetzle, glazed carrots, creamed corn, string beans, whipped potatoes, potato dumplings or zucchini

Family fun lunch special from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. - 
Kids ages 12 and under eat free off the children’s menu when accompanied by a parent purchasing a family table prix fixe meal. Reservations required for this activity.

Capital Ale House

$20 prix fixe menu:

  • Grilled pork tenderloin finished with a peach barbeque sauce over sweet potato hash and grilled asparagus followed by blackberry cobbler.

$5.99 children's menu:

  • Bowtie pasta tossed in a tomato basil sauce with bison meatballs and ice cream sandwich for dessert
  • Saturday lunch special: special s'mores for dessert!

 

Two course dinner for $20. Offerings vary day-to-day based on seasonal availability.

  • Buy one adult entree and drink and get one entree and drink free. Family four pack deal for under $20 nightly Aug. 6-14 after 5 p.m.

  • Two for $20 dinner special: one appetizer and two servings of wings for $20. Kid’s pay their age.

Sammy T’s Frozen Yogurt

FOODE

Two course prix fixe $20 menu:

  • Classic burger and our southern cornmeal shortcake. Served with a pile of our hand-cut herb tossed fries.
  • Chef salad & spiced orichette puttanesca.
  • Both options also includes a Maine root drink.

Kid’s Menu:

  • Grilled cheese sandwich.

On Aug. 6, for $20, FOODE will offer guests a family-style chicken barbeque feast for four.

Two course Prix Fix $20 menu for the adults, varied by day.

Kid’s Menu:

  • Homemade chicken fingers, penne pasta with marinara (or butter), macaroni and cheese and junior burgers. Available for kids three to 12-years-old for $8.50 per child.
