Deputy Hospitalized In Spotsylvania Hit-And-Run Incident: Sheriff

A car that failed to stop at the scene of a crash investigation struck and injured a Spotsylvania sheriff's deputy on Saturday, reports say.

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — A Spotsylvania sheriff's deputy was hospitalized after being struck by a car while was at the scene of a crash investigation on Saturday night in Spotsylvania, according to authorities.

Deputies from the Spotsylvania’s Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:16 p.m. to investigate the report of a motor vehicle crash at Courthouse Road and Southpoint Parkway.

“While deputies were directing traffic, a silver Honda approached the intersection and failed to slow down for emergency personnel,” according to the incident report. “The vehicle struck one of the deputies on the driver’s side, throwing the deputy to the ground. The driver then fled the scene.”

After searching the area, deputies located the silver Honda a short time later at the 7-Eleven on Hood Drive and identified the driver as Jason Davis of Spotsylvania, according to the sheriff’s office.

Davis was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and felony hit and run, according to the sheriff’s office. He was then taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.

The deputy who was struck by the Honda was taken to Mary Washington hospital for treatment. Although the deputy received minor injuries, he was in significant pain, according to the report.
