STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A man has been charged with reckless driving after a Dec. 16 crash involving a school bus, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

Four people were injured in the crash, including two students aboard the bus.

On Wednesday, deputies arrested 30-year-old Michael Kingham. He is charged with reckless driving and inhaling drugs. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, 12 students were on board bus 227 after it left Grafton Village Elementary school. Investigators said Kingham's Volkswagen was travelling behind the school bus on northbound Brooke Road before the crash.

Kingham tried to pass the school bus by crossing the double yellow lines, authorities said. The Volkswagen hit a Dodge SUV head-on in the southbound lane, according to the police report.

The Volkswagen hit the front of the school bus before overturning in an embankment. The force from the crash nudged the bus into the embankment, where it rolled over, police said.

On Tuesday, investigators presented evidence to a grand jury seeking charges for Kingham. The grand jury determined that the evidence was sufficient, and the court issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday night, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Cathedral Lane and Mine Road. Kingham was the driver in that crash, and deputies took him into custody.

"Thank you for your patience as we navigated the evidence in this case," the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. "Thank you to all the witnesses that assisted at the scene of the school bus crash and helped reunite the children with their families."
