Driver Died In Single-Vehicle Crash In Spotsylvania: Police

Authorities are investigating whether a Spotsylvania woman suffered a medical emergency before fatally crashing into a tree.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A woman died on Monday night after crashing her SUV into a tree, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office told Patch.

Authorities identified the woman as 63-year-old Krista Sirna-Lee. She died at the scene of the crash, the sheriff's office said.

The crash occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Monday in the 10500 block of Piney Branch Road, according to the police report. Sirna-Lee was driving her 2007 Honda CRV southbound when she left the roadway and struck a tree head-on, the sheriff's office told Patch.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction team is still investigating the crash. Investigators are working to determine if Sirna-Lee had a medical emergency prior to the crash.

Monday night's crash was the third fatal crash in Spotsylvania County in four days. On Friday morning, two drivers died in unrelated crashes.

The first fatal crash on Friday morning involved a single vehicle. The driver overcorrected after hitting a ditch, flipped, and hit a tree, according to authorities. Friday's second fatal crash occurred when a driver crossed a double-yellow line and hit another vehicle head-on, police said.
