Driver Hit 2 Teen Pedestrians In Stafford County: Police

A driver faces criminal charges in Stafford County after authorities said she hit two 14-year-old pedestrians last week.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A driver who crashed into a pair of teenage pedestrians last week faces criminal charges, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities identified the pedestrians as 14-year-olds. They suffered serious injuries, but the sheriff's office said they're expected to recover.

Police officials have not identified the driver by name. She is charged with two counts of maiming while driving intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $6,000 secured bond.

If convicted of all charges, the driver could face up to 21 years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The crash occurred on Wednesday night in the 2100 block of Aquia Drive in Stafford County. A helicopter took the injured pedestrians to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, authorities said.

Investigators believed the driver was intoxicated. When they searched her vehicle, they found a suspected controlled substance, according to the police report.

"The two juvenile pedestrians are still recovering from their injuries, but are expected to make a full recovery," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is praying for a speedy recovery for both of them."
