Driver Sought In Fatal Hit-In-Run Involving Pedestrian In Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in identified the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in the Cosner’s Corner area on Saturday night, according to authorities.

Deputies responded around 11:55 p.m. to the 10200 block of Patriot Highway for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

“Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject lying in the roadway,” according to the incident report. “Units from Spotsylvania Fire Rescue also responded; however, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The involved vehicle fled prior to deputies’ arrival.”

The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 61-year-old James Bijesse of an unidentified location, according to the report.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's office released a photo of a vehicle they say fled the scene of the crash. Anyone with video footage or information regarding the suspect vehicle is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at 540-582-7115.
