STAFFORD, VA—A woman assaulted two police officers Friday night after being arrested for driving drunk on Route 17 near a Target store where she drank a box of wine, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Diana Thorne, 30, of Stafford, was charged with driving under the influence, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, use of abusive language and throwing an inflammatory object from a vehicle.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Thorne was pulled over after flicking a cigarette from her vehicle while headed south on Route 17. When an officer approached the vehicle, he "detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," and noticed that the woman's speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
