DUI Stop Leads To Drug, Weapon Charges For Spotsylvania Man: Sheriff

A 28-year-old Spotsylvania man is facing drug and weapon charges after he was stopped for driving erratically, according to authorities.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 28-year-old Spotsylvania man is facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, following a traffic stop Thursday night in the Fredericksburg area, according to authorities.

Shortly after 8:35 p.m., Spotsylvania County sheriff's deputies responded to a call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing a vehicle driving erratically, according to the incident report. The vehicle was located in the 10400 block of Tall Timber Lane.

A deputy made contact with the driver, who was identified as Willis Adams of Spotsylvania, and noticed that he showed signs of impairment consistent with marijuana use, according to the report. After conducting field sobriety tests, the deputy arrested Adams for driving under the influence.

"During a search incident to arrest, deputies discovered a loaded pistol with the serial number removed on Adams’ person," according to the report. "Further investigation revealed he was a convicted felon, and a Schedule IV controlled substance was also located."

In addition to the DUI charge, Adams was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a Schedule IV narcotic, and removing/altering a firearm serial number, according to the report. He was then taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.
