Fatal Hit And Run Involving Pedestrian Suspect Charged: Sheriff
Spotsylvania sheriff's deputies arrested a 23-year-old Spotsylvania man for failing to remain on the scene of a fatal accident, reports say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 23-year-old Spotsylvania is facing a felony hit and run charge for fleeing the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Oct. 11 in the Cosners Corner area, according to the Spotsylvania County sheriff's office.
Deputies responded around 11:55 p.m. to the 10200 block of Patriot Highway for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
“Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject lying in the roadway,” according to the incident report. “Units from Spotsylvania Fire Rescue also responded; however, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The involved vehicle fled prior to deputies’ arrival.”

The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 61-year-old James Bijesse of an unidentified location, according to the report.

On Oct. 14, the sheriff's office released a surveillance photo of the suspect's vehicle. Through their investigation and the help of the residents of Spotsylvania County, deputies arrested Erick Cervantes Vallejo of Spotsylvania in connection to the fatal hit and run, according to the incident report.
Cervantes Vallejo was charged with felony hit and run: duty of driver to stop, etc., in event of accident involving injury or death, according to the report. Additional charges are pending following consultation with the Spotsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
