First Friday Roundup

September's First Friday is upon us, and that means a bucketful of downtown galleries will be rotating exhibits and showcasing new works for September. Here's a sampling of visual art gallery showings going on in the city Friday evening, culled from Fredericksburg Patch's Events Calendar. 

• - 712 Caroline Street - Exhibit highlights local artists participating in the city’s the weekend of September 24.  As a way of building excitement and interest in the event, PONSHOP owners Scarlett and Gabriel Pons offered up their gallery for a month-long exhibition, which kicks off on the first Friday of September.  The public will have a chance to vote on their favorite painting, and during the weekend of Via Colori®, PONSHOP will announce the “People’s Choice Award” as well as two honorable mentions. Reception goes from 6 to 10 p.m. 
• - 824 Caroline Street - Featuring the works of Helen Butler, Jane Snead, and Sandra Kennelly.  Original artwork from other member artists will also be on display. The opening is free and open to the public. Come meet and speak with the artists and to see what is new at Art First Gallery. Gallery opens at 11 a.m., reception goes from 6 to 9 p.m. Exhibit will remain up until Aug 3. 

• - 513 Jackson Street - Student works and local artists works displayed. Face painting, manga/anime demos, snacks provided. Reception goes from 5 to 9 p.m.
• 824 Caroline Street - Featuring the work of photographer Bob Gibson, creating striking images of his travels with careful consideration of subject matter. Reception goes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
• - 1011 A Princess Anne Street - McCown's latest work both in textile art quilts and new paintings. Exhibit contrasts industrial themes with natural elements and soft color. Reception from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday. Exhibit runs through the end of the month.
