As the summer wraps up, here are the dates Fredericksburg City students and parents should know for the new school year.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Summer will soon wrap up for students around Fredericksburg City. The first day of school in Fredericksburg City Public Schools is Monday Aug. 18.

Here are some of the important 2025-2026 school year dates to get on the calendar:

  • Aug. 4-8: Inservice/Workday
  • Aug. 11-15: Inservice/Workday
  • Aug. 12: James Monroe High School Open House
  • Aug. 13: Walker-Grant Middle School Orientation
  • Aug. 14: Orientation at Lafayette and Hugh Mercer Elementary Schools
  • Aug. 18: Transition Day: Walker-Grant Middle School (6th Grade); James Monroe High School (9th Grade); Lafayette and Hugh Mercer Elementary Schools (Kindergarten)
  • Aug. 18: First Day of School
  • Aug. 29: No School - Labor Day
  • Sept. 1: No School - Labor Day
  • Sept. 16: Interim Reports Issued
  • Sept. 23: No School - Rosh Hashannah
  • Oct. 2: No School - Yom Kippur
  • Oct. 13: No School - Inservice/Workday
  • Oct. 17: End of First Grading Period
  • Oct. 30: Report Cards Issued
