  1. A group of civic leaders, business owners, and journalists in Fredericksburg are launching a new nonprofit local news operation called The Fredericksburg Free Press. The publication aims to provide original content and news coverage for the community. The initiative is supported by members who contribute to the sustainability of local news.   2. "Written by Mike," a film directed by Ryan Cudahy, a Spotsylvania County resident, has completed the first phase of production in Fredericksburg. The film follows the stories of two young couples and their struggles with anxiety, trauma, and mental illness. Cudahy aims to bring awareness to mental health and challenge the stigmas surrounding it. The film features local landmarks in Fredericksburg, and the production has received support from Laughing Horn Productions. Several facilities in the Fredericksburg area, including Family Food Palace, Sizzling Kabob and Grill, and Kentucky Fried Chicken, recorded violations during recent restaurant inspections conducted by the Rappahannock Area Health District. Violations included the absence of a certified food protection manager certificate, failure to provide documentation for clean-up of bodily fluids, missing hand washing signs, and various instances of unclean equipment and food storage areas.
