Fredericksburg National Cemetery Hosts Gettysburg Address 150th Anniversary Ceremony

Dr. Mike Stevens, president of the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust, will lead a reading of the Gettysburg Address surrounded by the graves of more than 15,000 Union soldiers.

Lincoln’s November 19, 1863 address was given at Gettysburg and forever will be associated with that place, but its content and sentiment applies to all of America’s hallowed ground.

At 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, the National Park Service will host an informal gathering in the Fredericksburg National Cemetery on the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln’s address.

Dr. Mike Stevens, president of the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust, will lead a reading of the Gettysburg Address at the center of the cemetery, surrounded by the graves of more than 15,000 Union soldiers who fell during the Civil War.

The sunset program will be simple and straightforward, lasting perhaps 15 minutes.  The public is invited. The event is free.

Parking is available in the lots at 1013 Lafayette Blvd. and 120 Chatham Lane, Fredericksburg.
