Fredericksburg Area Primary Election 2019: Results
Here's a look at the June 11 primary election results for the Fredericksburg area.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA—Here's a rundown of who won in the area's June 11 2019 primary election to determine candidates for the Nov. 5 general election.
In the House 28th District on the Republican side, incumbent Robert "Bob" Thomas, Jr. was taken down by challenger Paul V. Milde III, a former Stafford Supervisor. University of Mary Washington professor and political analyst Stephen Farnsworth told the Free Lance-Star that the race "may be one of the most expensive primary contests for the House this year." The newspaper cited numbers from the Virginia Public Access Project that show both candidates have raised more than $360,000.
On the Democratic side, Joshua Cole was the lone candidate. He lost to Thomas two years ago—as did Milde.

In the Senate 17th District on the Republican side, incumbent Bryce E. Reeves held off a challenge from Rich N. Breeden, both of Spotsylvania and both veterans who are business owners. On the Democratic side, Amy J. Laufer of the Charlottesville beat S. Ben Hixon of Culpeper. Laufer is an educator; Hixon, a computer programmer.
In the Senate 28th District (including parts of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Prince William, King George and Westmoreland) on the Democratic side, Quasim Rashid turned back Laura Sellers. On the Republican side, incumbent Richard Stuart was unopposed.

In the House 88th District (including parts of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford and Fauquier) on the Democratic side, Kecia Evans of Stafford was topped by Jessica Foster of Remington. Evans was the first black candidate to run in the district. On the Republican side, incumbent Mark Cole of Spotsylvania was unopposed.
