Fredericksburg Congressional Primary 2024: Early Voting To Begin On Friday
Early voting begins May 3 primary, with voters casting ballots for candidates in the U.S. Senate and 7th Congressional District races.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Early voting begins on Friday in Fredericksburg for the 2024 primary elections in the 7th Congressional District race and the U.S. Senate races.
The Democratic primary election on June 18, 2024 will include three candidates vying for the open seat in the 7th Congressional District, which includes the City of Fredericksburg as well as King George, Greene, Orange, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Albemarle, Madison, Culpeper, Prince William and Caroline counties.
Six candidates are on the Republican ballot on June 18 in the 7th Congressional District race: Jon P. Myers, Derrick M. Anderson, Cameron D. Hamilton, John Prabhudoss, Maria E. Martin, and Terris E. Todd.

The Republican primary for U.S. Senate includes candidates Hung Cao, Eddie Garcia, Jonathan Emord, Chuck Smith and Scott Parkinson. The winner will face incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine (D).

Early in-person voting begins Friday, May 3 and continues through Saturday, June 15. Mail-in ballots will also start to be sent on May 3 to voters who requested one. An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person.
Registered voters may request a mail-in ballot by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 7 through the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal. Mail Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before June 18, 2024 and received by 12 p.m., June 21, 2024.
- The Voter Registrar’s ballot box will be available inside the Office of Voter Registration during regular business hours and Saturday voting.
- Due to construction work, the new Visitor Center on the first floor of Executive Plaza is underway.
- There will be no after-hours drop box available.
- All absentee ballots by mail have a stamped returned envelope included with them.
- Curbside voting will move to Wolfe Street in the first two parking spaces closest to Caroline Street. To request assistance, call the Office of Voter Registration and Elections at 540-372-1030.
Voters should follow the mail-in ballot instructions to return completed ballots. There is a choice to return by mail, a secure drop box with video surveillance outside the Office of Voter Registration & Elections, or at any polling place during voting hours. Mail-in ballots should be returned by 7 p.m. on June 18 or postmarked by June 18.
The deadline for voter registration is May 28. The easiest way to register to vote or check your registration status is visiting the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal. After the voter registration deadline, same-day registration is available to let voters cast a provisional ballot at the Voter Registration & Elections office.
Voters who will be 18 by the next general election on Nov. 5, 2024 can register to vote in the primary.
If you're voting on Election Day, visit your assigned polling place during voting hours from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check your polling place using the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal and see Fredericksburg's precinct locator.
An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person.
After polls close at 7 p.m. on June 18, preliminary election results will be tallied on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
