Fredericksburg Woman Awarded $1,000 from Jolly Time Pop Corn's 'Kernels of Kindness'

Jessica Kidd, founder of Spotsylvania non-profit Gracie's Gowns, makes homemade hospital gowns for chronically ill children.

Jolly Time Pop Corn has named Jessica Kidd, founder of Gracie’s Gowns in Spotsylvania, a Kernels of Kindness award winner for her volunteer business that creates homemade hospital gowns for children battling life-threatening diseases.

In 2012, Kidd founded Gracie’s Gowns, a local nonprofit that provides chronically ill children with homemade hospital gowns. In just two years, Gracie’s Gowns has provided more than 1,500 gowns to children around the world. The nonprofit aims to help children of all ages overcome the fear and anticipation often attached to extended hospital stays.

For its 100th birthday celebration, Kernels of Kindness is awarding 100 grants of $1,000 to “everyday folks who ‘pop up’ and make a difference in their communities.” Kidd said she plans to use the grant for purchasing fabric and delivering her finished gowns to hospitals.
