'Clutch Hitter' Mota First FredNat To Earn Player Of The Week Honors In 2025

Infielder Jorgelys Mota, a 29-year-old from the Dominican Republic, is the first FredNats player to earn player of the week honors in 2025.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Infielder Jorgelys Mota of the Fredericksburg Nationals was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of April 15-20, according to Minor League Baseball.

During the FredNats' six-game road series against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Moya went 8-for-22 (.364) with a home run, three doubles, a triple, six RBI, five walks and four stolen bases.

“He was also a very clutch hitter late in games, picking up a game-tying or go-ahead RBI in the 8th inning or later in three of the six games,” according to the FredNats. “He is tied for third in the Carolina League with seven extra-base hits, and is also tied for fifth in the league with 27 total bases.”

Born in Sabana Grande de Boya in the Dominican Republic, Mota began his minor league career in 2022, playing for the FredNats in 2023 and 2024.

The 8-7 FredNats return to Virginia Credit Union Stadium in Fredericksburg Tueday at 6:05 p.m. to begin a six-game series with the 6-9 Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays). Visit the FredNats’ website for ticket information.
