Free Back-To-School Haircuts, Meals For Fredericksburg Students

FREDERICKSBURG, VA (August 5, 2025) — A fresh cut, a good meal, and a confident start to the school year—thanks to a growing tradition in the Fredericksburg community, hundreds of local students will head back to class looking and feeling their best.

Now in its third year, Sharp Start Saturday will take place on Saturday, August 9, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Pete’s Barbershop (10800E Courthouse Rd.). The event is open to all school-aged children, ages 5–16, who are invited to receive a free haircut, with services provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Upon arrival, students will check in with a barbershop representative and receive a ticket for their complimentary meal or snack.

“There’s something powerful about a fresh haircut—it gives kids that extra boost of confidence to take on the new school year,” said DJ Bruce, General Manager of Sheehy GMC of Fredericksburg. “We’re honored to continue this incredible tradition and help students walk into the classroom with pride and positivity.”

Over the past two years, Sharp Start Saturday has served more than 300 students in the region, offering support for families while reinforcing the power of local partnerships. In addition to grooming services, Sheehy GMC will treat students to a free lunch, with the Kool Zone food truck on-site to serve up delicious, kid-friendly favorites throughout the day.
