Free Doughnuts for National Doughnut Day 2016

Now that all of that Easter candy is a distant memory, it's time for the next big holiday working against our diet: National Doughnut Day, or National Donut Day.

On the first Friday of June each year, breakfast snack fans everywhere celebrate National Doughnut Day.

Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut of your choice, no purchase necessary — and they're going international for National Doughnut Day, with deals in Australia, Japan, Puerto Rico and beyond.

Citing a long history of Doughnut Day celebrations by The Salvation Army dating back to 1938, red kettles will be at registers this year for donations to the charity.

Dunkin Donuts is also offering a free treat, but you'll need to purchase a coffee or other beverage (twist our arm). Just in time for summer, the popular chain is promoting their iced coffee, with some help from David Ortiz and Rob Gronkowski.

Duck Donuts is offering a free sugar donut on Friday. You can claim the offer on their Facebook page.

Growing Virginia donut empire Sugar Shack is getting excited about National Donut Day, with area locations in Fredericksburg, Alexandria and Arlington. Sugar Shack has a daily free donut deal, how's that for celebrating year round?
