Frost Advisory, Mid-Week Storm Expected In VA Weather Forecast

Frost advisory overnight then a storm predicted for NoVA mid-week, with sunny and dry days in the 60s and 70s, this week's forecast said.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — A frost advisory has been issued for Monday night into Tuesday morning and a mid-week rainstorm is set to hit the DC region, weather forecasts for the week predict. Most of the work week will be sunny, with high temperatures ranging from 60 to 70 degrees.

The week begins with sunny skies and a high near 64 degrees Monday and then 70 degrees Tuesday before a chance of spring showers moves in that night, the National Weather Service said.

The wet week will continue Wednesday with more anticipated rain and daytime temperatures in the low 70s, forecasters said.

AccuWeather meteorologists said temperatures can get low enough in this region to threaten vegetation as a cold fronts sweep south from Canada. "While it may be the last frosts and freezes of the cold season for some ahead of a big warmup to end the month, precautions will need to be taken to protect any sensitive vegetation into this week," the weather agency said.

Temperatures as low as 34 degrees will result in frost formation Monday night in the District of Columbia, central, northern, and northwest Virginia, the National Weather Service said as it issued a frost advisory from 2 to 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.

"If you started your plants in pots, it would be a good idea to bring them indoors the next couple of nights," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski. "If you are not able to do so, cover up your veggies and flowers with a blanket or tarp to protect them from a frost or freezing temperatures."

Areas included in the frost advisory are: the District of Columbia, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, and Loudoun counties, plus the cities of Reston, Herndon, Annandale, Centreville, Chantilly, McLean, Franconia, Fredericksburg, Leesburg, Ashburn, Dale City, Manassas, Woodbridge, and Lake Ridge.
