FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Giant Food is celebrating the grand reopening of its Fredericksburg grocery store by donating 1,000 turkeys to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The donation is part of Giant Food and Shady Brook Farms contributions to five local Feeding America food banks, as well as local charitable organizations and food pantries for a total of 12,000 turkeys to help alleviate hunger across the Mid-Atlantic region.

“At Giant Food, we are committed to helping families in our communities access the food they need, especially during the holiday season,” said Felis Andrade, director of community relations at Giant Food. “Our partnership with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank allows us to support families throughout the Fredericksburg area, ensuring that our communities remain strong and united.”

The donation will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, at Giant Food Store #234, which is located at 550 Celebrate Virginia Parkway in Fredericksburg.

The turkey donation is being made in conjunction with Giant’s "Lend A Hand for Hunger Campaign," which raises money for Giant’s Feeding America food bank partners and their networks of partner organizations. Giant Food will donate turkeys to the Maryland Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Food Bank of Delaware, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Manna Food Center, Martha’s Table, Greater Baltimore Urban League, the Greater Washington Urban League, and other local food pantries.

“The holidays can be an especially challenging time, as so many of our traditions center around meals shared with loved ones,” said Dan Maher, president and CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. “With the generous support of partners like Giant Food, we are able to provide nourishing meals to our neighbors, not only this holiday season, but throughout the year.”
