Giant Food Donates 1,000 Turkeys To Fredericksburg Food Bank To Support Hunger Relief

Giant Food donated 1,000 turkeys to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Thursday as part of the grocer's commitment to hunger relief.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Giant Food donated 1,000 turkeys to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Thursday morning as part of the grocery chain's contributions to five mid-Atlantic area Feeding America food banks during the holidays.

Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank President and CEO Dan Maher joined area Giant Food store managers and employees at the food bank on Thursday to celebrate the donation.

Giant has donated at least 1,000 turkeys to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank each of the last 10 years in November to support the food bank during the holiday season. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Giant has donated more than 200,000 pounds of food to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and over $120,000 in monetary contributions to support its hunger initiatives.

The turkey donation is in connection to the Giant Food’s “Lend a Hand for Hunger” campaign, which runs from Oct. 29 to Thanksgiving Day. During the campaign, Giant customers can donate $1, $3, $5, or roundup their change to the nearest dollar at checkout, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to local Feeding America food banks.

Giant also donated at least 1,000 turkeys to the Maryland Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Food Bank of Delaware.

The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank serves the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline and the City of Fredericksburg and the town of Locust Grove. The food bank distributes more than 3.9 million pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.

There are six Giant Food stores in the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank Region:

Every year, Giant also donates 200 hams to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank in April right before Easter.
