Inspection After Fire Determines Whether VA Eatery Can Reopen
A Rappahannock Area Health District inspector evaluated the clean-up effort after a grease fire closed a Fredericksburg restaurant.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Two weeks after a grease fire interrupted service at a downtown Fredericksburg restaurant, the fire marshal and a Rappahannock Area Health District inspector cleared it to reopen.
Around 3 p.m. on Aug. 28, units from both the Fredericksburg Fire Department and Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management responded to Sammy T's at 801 Caroline St. for the report of a fire.
Fredericksburg Fire Chief Michael Jones told hyperbole that fire personnel quickly located and extinguished the grease fire in the restaurant's kitchen. No injuries were reported.

On Sept. 9, a health inspector visited Sammy T's to determine whether it could reopen for business.
"The food establishment has been cleaned, all food contact surfaces have been cleaned and sanitized and all exposed food and single service articles have been discarded," according to the inspection report. "Two cooking equipment were replaced- specification sheets were provided to [Environmental Health Services]. The food establishment has been approved to resume operations by the fire marshal and the health department."

Inspectors also told told employees to monitor the temperature of the walk-in cooler (41 degrees F) near the cook line, which is where the fire occurred.
From Sept. 2 to 13, Rappahannock Area Health District inspectors reported finding violations at these Fredericksburg food establishments.
