Jeffries Trial Scheduled for June 2014

The Fredericksburg resident faces 12 felony indictments related to February's double homicide in The Plains.

Fauquier Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey W. Parker set 9:30 a.m. June 2, 2014, as the start date for the trial of John Wesley Jeffries, according to the Fauquier Times-Democrat.

Jeffries, 60, faces 12 charges related to the February murders of Nelson and Ethel Slack in The Plains.  Five of those charges carry with them the death penalty, according to Code of Virginia.  The charges include:

  • Two counts of capital murder/abduction
  • Two counts of capital murder/robbery
  • Capital/double murder
  • Two counts of abduction
  • Two counts of strangulation
  • Two counts of robbery
  • One count of cocaine possession

Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Walther wanted an earlier trial date, according to the Times-Democrat.

"The court moves these matters as expeditiously as possible," Parker said, according to the Times-Democrat.
