
Update - Shortly before 8 p.m. The National Weather Service has lifted the Severe Thunderstorm Warning. A Thunderstorm Watch is still in effect until 10 p.m.
The NWS had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, Stafford County and Orange County. The warning was originally in effect until 8:15 p.m.
At 7:14 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler Radar detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing 60 mph winds and quarter size hail. The storm was 22 miles west of Massaponax and moving east at 25 mph.

The public was warned to batten down the hatches and prepare for a storm with damaging wind gusts, large hail and frequent cloud to ground lightning. The warning suggested moving indoors to a sturdy building and avoiding windows.
