Here are the top three stories today in Fredericksburg:
- Stafford High School students excelled at the SkillsUSA Virginia State Leadership Conference last month. Tristen Schönteich and Enrique Torres-Martinez earned gold medals in additive manufacturing, architectural drafting, essay, and technical drafting. They will represent Virginia at the June SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta. (Subscription: Fredericksburg.com)
- St. George's Episcopal Church will host a free concert on May 21 at 3 p.m., featuring Magnus Lartey, Achim Loch, and John Vreeland as part of their Chamber Concert Series. The concert will showcase the newly added ranks to their Parsons organ and will include a diverse repertoire of music by composers such as John Stanley, Vincent Lubeck, Dietrich Buxtehude, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Percy Fletcher. Donations will be accepted at the door, and St. George's Episcopal Church is known for its captivating concerts held in the historic downtown location.(Fauquier Times)
- The University of Mary Washington's Board of Visitors voted to keep undergraduate tuition unchanged for the upcoming academic year but will raise graduate tuition and fees. Undergraduates will continue to pay $4,469 per semester for in-state students and $12,929 per semester for out-of-state students. The decision, aimed at maintaining quality education, was announced in a press release, stating that the university had to overcome a deficit of nearly $7 million by implementing cost-saving measures and utilizing reserves.
