FREDERICKSBURG, VA—George Candia was driving through Tappahannock recently when he decided to stop and buy a few lottery tickets. So the Fredericksburg man pulled into the Fast Mart at 1999 Tappahannock Boulevard and did just that.
Good thing he did. When Candia scratched his Virginia Lottery "777 Scratcher" ticket, he found he had won the top prize of $177,777. The retired firefighter told lottery officials he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
Candia's odds of winning the top prize were 1 in 1,040,400.
