Man Sought In Wife's Death In Fredericksburg Found Dead: Police

A "person of interest" in his wife's death was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday following a police chase, say police.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA—A "person of interest" in his wife's death Thursday was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday following a police chase in Albemarle County, according to a joint statement from Albemarle County Police and the Louisa County Sheriff's Office. Barry Nelson Sullivan, 45, of Fredericksburg, had been wanted for questioning in the death of Karen Woodall, 44.

Around 1:20 p.m., police received a statewide broadcast from Fredericksburg Police regarding Sullivan. He had last been seen in Louisa County driving a black 2003 Honda, and was reported to possibly be armed and dangerous.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police spotted the vehicle on Louisa Road in the area of Columbia Road. When they tried to pull it over, the vehicle accelerated and the chase began. Police followed the vehicle for seven miles and into Albemarle County, where the vehicle stopped.

Police approached it while giving commands but the driver didn't respond and was found dead from the self-inflicted gunshot. Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fredericksburg Police haven't released Woodall's cause of death, but the Free-Lance Star reported that court records show she had a head wound when she was found.
