FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A masked man who stole items from a Fredericksburg department store on Tuesday was arrested a short time later as he was exiting another department store that he’d taken items from, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy responded around 4:39 p.m. for the report of a larceny at the Target located at 25 South Gateway Drive. The staff told the deputy that a man had entered the store wearing a face mask, placed a number of items inside a backpack, and then fled the business without paying, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputy obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which he shared with other deputies.

A short time later, one of the deputies spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart at 11 Village Parkway and arrested the suspect as he was leaving the store, according to the incident report. During the arrest, the deputy recovered items that the suspect had just stolen from the Walmart.
