Memorial Day Weekend Starts With Storm Watch

Scattered thunderstorms could bring hail and high winds to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m. tonight for Fredericksburg and other areas of central and northern Virginia. 

A hazardous weather outlook issued earlier today for the region says that predicted afternoon and evening thunderstorms could become severe, bringing large hail and powerful winds.

Forecasts call for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s with a south wind blowing at about 11 mph. More thunderstorms are possible later this afternoon and evening until about 11 p.m. 

Tomorrow brings another round of possible thunderstorms between noon and 4 p.m. Temperatures are predicted to rise to the mid 80s with a south wind blowing up to 10 mph.
