Newspaper Carrier Attacked With Hammer In Stafford: SCSO
A man attacked a newspaper carrier's vehicle with a hammer before later being arrested after driving into a ditch in Stafford: SCSO.

STAFFORD, VA—A man attacked a newspaper carrier's vehicle with a hammer early Saturday on Rockdale Road before later being arrested after driving into a ditch, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Rick Lynn Asbury Jr., 38, of Stafford, was charged with destruction of property, disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, driving suspended and reckless driving.
A woman reported that shortly after 3:30 a.m., she was delivering newspapers when a suspicious man approached her vehicle and began hitting it with a hammer. Police canvassed the area and came upon a stopped white pickup blocking the entire road. It then began moving, nearly hitting the police cruiser head-on before going into a ditch.
A man matching the hammer suspect's description then got out of the truck and fled into his nearby residence. More units were called and Asbury eventually came out of the home and was arrested. A search of the vehicle found several hammers and a small clear bag containing a white powdery substance. A broken hammer was also found in the road her the home.
