No Charges in Officer-Involved Shooting in Fredericksburg

Officer struggled with the suspect during a traffic stop in March. State investigators say shooting was justified.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A city police officer will not face charges after the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old city resident as the two men struggled during a traffic stop in March.

The Virginia State Police announced the results of its investigation on Monday, noting that prosecutors involved in the case have also declined to prosecute the officer after determining the shooting was "lawful and justified."

Travis J. Blair, 33, refused to cooperate with the officer during a March 22 traffic stop, state police said at the time.
