STERLING, VA—Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast, not including Friday night's overall ickiness, calls for a mostly overcast weekend with relatively mild temperatures ahead of next week's cold blast. That's the word from the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.

The rain will stick around until early Saturday, after which temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees in most places. Even so, conditions likely will be dry with lows above freezing.

As for Sunday, there's this from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "We may see light mixed precipitation break out in the afternoon. With time, it should change to all rain in the evening before heavier stuff moves in. Shifts here could bring more wintry weather, so keep an eye out just in case."
