Northern Virginia Weather: Hazardous Outlook Issued

Northern Virginia's weather outlook includes an extended flood watch and even a mention of tornadoes, according to area forecasting outlets.

STERLING, VA—Rain picks up considerably Thursday night for folks in the Northern Virginia area, with strong winds and a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service through Friday afternoon. At least two more inches of rain, according to the NWS, is a possibility.

And then there's this, from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "Somewhere near or after midnight, there’s a chance for a heavier burst of activity and potentially some thunder. If this happens, winds could reach severe levels or even a quick tornado could spin up."

Thursday Night: Rain before 1am, then showers between 1am and 4am, then rain after 4am. The rain could be heavy at times. Areas of fog. Temperature rising to around 61 by 2am. East wind 8 to 15 mph becoming south after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday: Rain before 1pm, then a chance of showers between 1pm and 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Patchy fog before 10am. High near 60. South wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers between 1am and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. South wind 9 to 14 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48. West wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
