From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Fredericksburg.

Sports run deep in Fredericksburg, and Massaponax High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Panthers uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Massaponax High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. DeAndre Houston‑Carson – NFL Safety (Houston Texans)
A graduate of Massaponax High School, Houston-Carson played college football at William & Mary before being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2016. He has appeared in over 100 NFL games and is known for his special-teams play and versatility in the secondary. (Source: William & Mary Athletics)
2. Greg Slaughter – Professional Basketball Center (PBA)
Slaughter graduated from Massaponax before continuing his education and basketball career in the Philippines. He was the number one overall pick in the 2013 PBA Draft and won multiple championships with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. (Source: RealGM)

3. Takeira Ramey – Collegiate Basketball Guard (Texas State)
Ramey was a multi-time MVP at Massaponax, earning honors at the district and regional levels. Known for her leadership and defensive tenacity, she has been a key contributor to the Bobcats since her freshman year, though a recent injury caused her to end her season. (Source: Texas State Athletics)
4. Vincent “Vinny” Mihota – Defensive Lineman (Virginia Tech)
Mihota was a standout defensive lineman at Massaponax High School, graduating in 2014. He went on to play five seasons at Virginia Tech, starting 28 games for the Hokies and finishing his career with 90 tackles and 4.5 sacks. (Source: HokieSports)

5. Donavan Beaver – Offensive Tackle (West Virginia University)
