Pharmacist Calls Out Fraudulent Script On First Day: Sheriff

Authorities said she called the doctor after realizing a phone number seemed off. Police arrested the suspect when he came to pick up.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Police are thanking a pharmacist who stopped a suspect from fraudulently getting a prescription on her first day on the job.

Emily Gelzinis, who works at the pharmacy at the Giant on Celebrate Virginia Parkway, told deputies somebody called in a prescription, but the phone number didn't seem right.

She contacted the doctor and found out he had not ordered the prescription, the sheriff's office said.

Then, Gary Anthony, 24, of Camp Springs, Maryland, arrived to pick up the allegedly fraudulent prescription, police say. Gelzinis called the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived to find Anthony in the waiting area. He was arrested on charges of prescription fraud, conspiracy and identity fraud and taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond

"The incident illustrates one small way working together with our local businesses and community members can help reduce prescription fraud and drug abuse," the sheriff's office said in a release.
