Pitbull Responsible for Suspicious Death

Autopsy reveals victim had defensive wounds on body from fight with dog.

An autopsy conducted by the state medical examiner's office in Richmond shows that a suspicious death discovered in Spotsylvania County over the weekend was the result of a dog attack. David Quyon Haigler, 38, was found dead in his home on June 11. During their investigation, Sheriff's Deputies on the scene had to call Animal Control officers to take two pit bulls away from the residence, according to reports in the Free Lance Star.

The autopsy, performed yesterday at the Richmond Office of the State Medical Examiner, was witnessed by a Spotsylvania County Sheriff's detective.

"The results of the medical examiner's inquiry revealed that in fact the dog that was roaming free in the house when deputies arrived was responsible for the death," reads a press release on the incident. "The medical examiner reports that there was clear indication of paw marks on the body, and, clear evidence of defensive wounds to the fingers and hands."
