Planning Commission Delays Decision on Gasoline Storage, Distribution Facility

Discussion to continue at Mayfield Community meeting on Nov. 21 and at the Planning Commission's Dec. 11 meeting.

The Fredericksburg Planning Commission delayed action Wednesday on a request to allow conversion of the Quarles Petroleum site into a gasoline storage and distribution facility.

South Carolina based Lincoln Terminal Co. wants to purchase the 10.2 acre  site at 1500 Beulah Salisbury Dr.   It is located adjacent to the Mayfield neighborhood.

Mayfield residents want to meet with Lincoln representatives to hear about impact on traffic, facility safety and evacuation details in case of an emergency.  The next Mayfield Community Meeting is Nov. 21.

According to the company’s application, Lincoln Terminal plans to install six additional tanks for its products -- gas, bio-diesel and ethanol.   The company estimated their initial investment at $7 million.

The planning commission will continue discussion on Lincoln's application at its Dec. 11 meeting, 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
