UPDATE: Police Have Few Leads in Window Bashing
Almost all of the victims did not discover the vandalism until hours afterwards.
A window smashing spree that spanned Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania has police scratching their heads over a lack of witnesses or other hard evidence to follow.
Between 3 a.m. and 11 a.m. yesterday, five city residents reported smashed or broken windows to police. Two of the incidents happened almost around the corner from each other on Falling Creek Lane and Genther Lane. The other one reported in the city happened on Warfield Place off of Braehead Drive.
"We are assuming that those are connected," said Natatia Bledsoe, public information officer for the Fredericksburg Police Department.

Another window smashing incident was also reported at at 317 Dixon Street. Police don't believe that incident is related to the other three. There, a windowpane was broken out not by a large rock, as in the others, but appears to have been punched out. Police found a lengthly blood trail leading away from the scene.
Bledsoe also reported that Spotsylvania County Deputies responded to a similar rash of incidents last night. Officials from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office could not be reached by phone as of 12:30 p.m.

Complicating the investigation is the fact that there are no witnesses to the crimes. Only one of the victims even heard the windows being smashed, but did not discover the nature of the sounds until later. The others discovered the damage the next morning.
"We really don't have anything at this point," said Bledsoe.
Police are asking for anyone who might have witnessed these incidents to let them know. Information can be confidentially sent via text by sending the code FPDTIP, plus their tip information, to TIP411. You can also call the police department at 540-373-3122 .
