Police Investigate Mayfield Gun Battle
Police say at least two men exchanged gunfire in a shooting earlier this evening, leaving one man wounded, three men in police custody.

Fredericksburg Police are investigating a shooting which took place earlier this evening in the 900 block of White Street in Mayfleld.
According to Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe, multiple area residents called 911 at around 5:17 p.m. to report gunfire. When police arrived, they found a 27-year-old man bearing a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder. The victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital.
Bledsoe says that police also found one man nearby on the street who they believe to be the shooter. Police have taken the man into custody but have not yet released his identity. Charges have not yet been filed in the incident.
Police have also detained two other men found nearby.
"It's unclear of their involvement, but all three of those men are considered persons of interest," said Bledsoe in a phone interview.
Police recovered two guns at the scene of the crime. Bledsoe says that the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in possession of a weapon at the time of the shooting and returned fire.
"At this point, we aren't quite sure who the real victims and suspects are," said Bledsoe. "With indications that the victim was also actively shooting, it's really unclear what the sequence of events is right now."
Officers and detectives with the Fredericksburg Police Department along with the Virginia State Police remain in the area collecting evidence and interviewing eye-witnesses as the investigation continues.
