Police Say Man Loved Dogs Too Much

Fredericksburg man charged with crimes against nature for trysts with terrier.

The investigative work of two members of the Spotsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals resulted in some bizarre charges against a Fredericksburg man. His crime: performing sexual acts with a small dog.

Police say they were contacted by SPCA members Laurie Huber and Bill Hoyt on Tuesday with an alarming report. The two had been in contact with 35-year-old Jason Sanborn after discovering a craigslist ad searching for a larger dog which contained the words "animal play." The two told Police that the phrase is a code-word indicating interest in beastiality.

Police say the two SPCA members contacted Sandborn over email, posing as potential customers. Gaining his trust, the two exchanged emails with Sandborn where he admitted to participating in sexual escapades with his terrier, going so far as to exchange pictures of his carnal canine trysts.

When police arrested Sandborn, they found a small terrier and two cats living with him. The animals were turned over to the Spotsylvania SPCA with Sandborn's consent.

Sandborn was arrested and charged with crimes against nature, a law prohibiting beastiality (as well as oral and anal sex between consenting adults) but not incarcerated. Citing his previous lack of a criminal record, Sandborn was released on his own recognizance.
