Police Search for Robber With Bad Timing

A man attempted to rob a Spotsylvania pharmacy, but arrived too late to get his hands on prescription narcotics before running out the door empty handed.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office is searching for a robber with some bad timing. Sheriffs say that the robber left a CVS on Harrison Road empty handed after he tried to rob the pharmacy after they had already locked up their narcotics for the evening.

The incident began around 10 p.m. on Sept. 20, around closing time, when a young white man entered the store and asked about the pharmacy, saying that he had a prescription which he needed to fill. The clerk in the store told the man that he should take his business to the CVS near Mary Washington Hospital, which is open 24 hours a day. According to sheriffs, the man told the clerk that he would go to that CVS to get his prescription filled.

Despite receiving this advice, the man continued towards the pharmacy counter where he encountered one of the store pharmacists. The man approched the counter and handed the pharmacist a long note saying that the man had a gun in his pocket which he would use if threatened. The note also bore a list of a number of prescription narcotics. The pharmacist, after looking over the note, told the man that the drugs had already been locked up for the evening and would be unable to be retrieved until the next day. The man tried to ask the pharmacist if there were any drugs at all he could turn over, but the pharmacist, according to sheriff's, simply said "no."

Grabbing the note from the pharmacist, the man ran off. He never displayed a gun. He did not take any money or drugs, and was last seen running down Harrison Road in the direction of Salem Station Blvd.

Sheriffs say the man is about 5'11' tall with a thin build, brown hair and a short, well-groomed beard. He was wearing white pants and a beige and brown plaid shirt along with a dark baseball cap.
