Rappahannock River Expected to Crest 8 p.m. Tuesday

"Fredericksburg suffered virtually no damage overnight due to the storm, with only a few flooded basements and no reports of downed trees as of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning," said Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department Public Information Officer in an email to press.  

"Just a handful of households reported loss of power, but there were no requests for emergency housing and the shelter remained unopened," she reported.

Some residents have expressed concern about possible flooding on Sophia Street, but Bledsoe says that has not happened yet. "The water is coming up the ramp at City Dock at the end of Sophia Street, but there are no flooding conditions right now," she told Patch in an email. "There are a couple houses down there that are low and might get affected earlier than the rest, but we don't have any reports of issues as of now," she said.

The Rappahannock River is expected to crest at 17.4 feet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, and flood stage at City Dock is 18 feet, according to Bledsoe. "Those affected by river flooding should be preparing now to protect their property," she said.

Tuesday's weather forecast is for continued rain with moderate winds of up to 20 mph. Bledsoe said most city departments will return to normal staffing by the evening.

With the rain, there is still a strong possibility for falling trees and tree limbs and subsequent power outages. Residents should call the 911 Dispatch Center to report downed trees, and loss of electricity should be reported to Dominion Power at 1-866-366-4357.
