School Notes: College Recruiters, Military Testing and More

College Reps Set to Visit James Monroe 

Representatives from three colleges will be visiting James Monroe High School next week. Seniors are invited to attend any of the meetings, but require permission from the counseling center. Check the list below:

  • Randolph-Macon College - Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.
  • Christopher Newport University - Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Longwood University - Friday, Sept. 30, at 9 a.m.

Armed Services Test to be Offered at High School

Students at James Monroe High School will have an opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test, ASVAB for short, later on in the fall. The ASVAB is a standardized test designed to gauge mental preparedness for life in the U.S. military.

The test will be administered on Nov. 9 at 8 a.m. in the James Monroe High School Library. Any junior or senior may sign up to take the test. The deadline to register is on Oct. 21.

Spirit Day at Lafayette Upper Elementary

Students at Lafayette Upper Elementary School are asked to wear pink on Friday, Oct. 7 as part of a spirit day. 

Math, Ice Cream Meet at Elementary School

Students who completed and turned in a series of summer math assignments at Lafayette Upper Elementary School will get to take part in an ice cream party at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. If students have completed and turned in their forms, they will receive an invitation to the social. 

Walker-Grant Students Set To Say Cheese

School portraits are scheduled for Walker-Grant Middle School students on Friday, Sept. 30. Students should have received ordering information yesterday to distribute to their parents. Pictures can be bought online or with cash, prices begin at $11.
