Teen Trespassing At Monroe HS Prompts Fredericksburg Schools To Close

Fredericksburg City Public Schools are closed on Friday due to safety and security reasons, according to the school system.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Authorities closed all Fredericksburg City Public Schools on Friday due to the appearance of a missing 16-year-old from Fairfax County who was spotted on the campus of James Monroe High School on Wednesday, according to Fredericksburg City Police.

“ The School Resource Officer approached the juvenile, who then fled school grounds,” according to a statement from police. “A search of the area had negative results. We believe there are potential safety and security concerns with this individual’s mental state. In an abundance of caution, Fredericksburg City Public Schools were closed Friday, March 21st.”

Police identified Fasihullah Safar as the individual who is wanted for trespassing on school property. He has been missing from Fairfax County since Monday, according to a post on the Stop Child Abuse website. He was also a student at the Edison Academy in Fairfax County Public Schools.

On Friday morning, Spotsylvania Sheriff Roger L. Harris released the following statement, saying that no threats had been made against Spotsylvania County Public Schools:

"The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office is aware of the safety and security concerns against the Fredericksburg City Public Schools. There are no threats against the Spotsylvania County Public Schools. The Sheriff’s Office has been in direct contact with the Fredericksburg Police Department and the Spotsylvania County Public Schools. The Sheriff’s Office and Spotsylvania County Public Schools prioritize school safety. The Sheriff’s Office will be increasing their patrols of the school system out of an abundance of caution. Please remember, if you see something, say something.
