Soccer Association Launches Washington Invitational for Young Players

The Washington Invitational will debut in Aug. 2013 at the Spotsylvania Sportsplex at New Post.

The Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association (FASA) plans to launch a youth tournament series at the new sportsplex in Spotsylvania. 

The Washington Invitational will kick off in August of next year at FASA's section of the . The group expects hundreds of teams from around the East Coast to travel to the event every year.

The invitational will replace FASA's Fredericksburg Cup Tournament, as the organization co-hosts the event with Richmond-based Chesterfield United Soccer Club.

"Our tournament has experienced steady growth for the past 10 years, and we wanted to accelerate it, especially with our new complex," FASA's general manager, Pete Cinalli, said in a press release.

"Rebranding our event helps us broaden its reach and scope," he said in the release. "And with the top fields we already use, including Patriot Park, Dixon Park and the new outdoor, synthetic-turf field that recently opened at the Fredericksburg Field House, we can host a much larger event on some of the best fields in the Mid-Atlantic region."
