Spotsy Sheriff's Arrest 5 for Window Smashing

Early this morning, Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Deputies arrested five juveniles in relation to a rash of two dozen acts of vandalism in that county which stretch back two weeks. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office estimates that the group caused $36,000 in damages committing acts of vandalism in numerous suburbs. 

It is not yet officially known if these suspects are connected with a according to Natatia Bledsoe, public information officer for the Fredericksburg Police Department. 

"We’ll be coordinating with Spotsy to interview these juveniles and see if they are connected to our cases," wrote Bledsoe in an email. 

According to a press release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 1:20 a.m. today to the Heritage Hill Circle area to investigate a vandalism. 

Once on the scene, the deputy found a homeowner who reported hearing a loud noise before discovering a home window had been shattered. He saw a group of boys running from his property to hop into the bed of a pick-up truck, which fled the scene. 

While the deputy was at the scene, a second deputy pulled over a pick-up truck with several youths riding in the truck bed near the subdivision.

Under questioning, the juveniles confessed to smashing windows in the subdivision. They also confessed to a rash of at least 25 other vandalisms going back to Aug. 5. The crimes vary between chucking bricks through windows to smearing food on cars, according to the press release. 

All five were charged with vandalism and throwing a missile at an occupied dwelling. They were detained at the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.
