Spotsylvania Animal Shelter Hosts "Clear the Shelter" Event

The July 23 adoption event resulted in 35 pet adoptions.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Shelter, hosted the first annual “Clear the Shelter Event”, on Saturday, July 23, 2016. This is an annual event sponsored by PECTCO and the first year that the Animal Shelter participated.

All Shelter staff and volunteers were on hand to assist visitors in finding their perfect pet for adoption. Over 300 people attended the event, resulting in 24 dogs and 11 cats being adopted out to new families. The spay, neuter and rabies vaccines were handled by the Shelter and all adoption fees were waived.

Sheriff Roger Harris noted, “This was a very successful event and we have received a lot of positive feedback. The Sheriff’s Office is lucky to have such a hardworking, dedicated and progressive group, working for our Shelter.” Captain Willie Tydings, Commander of the Animal Control Division, which includes the Animal Shelter, related, “I would like to personally thank Shelter Director Toni Thomas, the Shelter staff and volunteers for their hard work and preparation for this great event”.
