Spotsylvania Man Misses $1.7B Powerball Jackpot But Still Wins $100K

Matching four of five numbers wasn't enough for a Spotsylvania man to win a recent Powerball jackpot, he still walked away with $100,000.

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — Even though a Spotsylvania man was just one number away from winning the $1.7 billion jackpot in the Dec. 24 Powerball drawing, he still walked away with a $100,000.

It was the whopping jackpot that convinced Jeffrey Dimond to purchase a Powerball ticket at the Wawa located at 9235 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania, according to the Virginia Lottery.

The winning numbers in the Dec. 24 drawing were 4-25-31-52-59, and the Powerball number was 19, according to a release. Dimond matched the first four numbers, which normally would've netted him $50,000. However, he spent an extra dollar for Power Play, which doubled his winnings.
